Carol Jean (Brookshier) Dupree, age 62, died Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at her home in St. Joseph, MO. She was born December 21, 1956 in Chillicothe, MO the daughter of Russell Dean and Jean Gertrude (Gann) Brookshier. On August 28, 1976 at the Hale, MO United Methodist Church she married Victor McCracken, they divorced in 1981. On November 27, 1981 at the Community Church in Chillicothe, MO she married Keith Dupree. He survives of the home.
Carol first lived as an infant with her parents in Lock Springs, MO and later moved to Helena, MO where they purchased a farm. The family then purchased a Grade A Dairy farm in Southeastern Livingston County Near Hale, MO in 1962 where she resided until her marriage. She was an active participant in farm life learning the values of hard work through milking cows, putting up hay, cutting wood, gardening and whatever else was necessary to keep the farm going. After her first marriage she lived in the Hale, Utica, and Chillicothe, MO areas. From 1981 until her death she resided in St. Joseph, MO.
She enjoyed a successful career in management, as a successful businesswoman and as an active citizen, especially being involved in her son’s activities. She always had a passion for cosmetology and fashion and followed that career path.
Carol was a graduate of Hale High School, she was a graduate of the Chillicothe Beauty Academy and she attended Missouri Western State University. In addition she taught classes at Vatterott College. She was recognized by several employers by being sent on trips to New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and other places of interest. She loved encouraging, training and mentoring future managers and leaders.
Her employment history included the Brookshier Dairy Farm in Hale, MO; Midwest Quality Gloves in Chillicothe, MO; Dylis Hensley’s Beauty Shop in Hale, MO; The Clipper in Chillicothe, MO; J.C. Penney and Lane Bryant Sales in St. Joseph, MO; Avon Sales and Management in Hale and St. Joseph, MO and Bath and Body Works Management in St. Joseph, MO.
As an active citizen, Carol was involved in many Church, civic and school organizations. Her current and previous activities and memberships include: President of the St. Joseph, MO Area School District PTA; Member of the St. Joseph, MO School District Superintendent’s Advisory Council; Member of Grace Evangelical Church – St. Joseph, MO; Cub Scout Leader; Boy Scout Leader; Member of Deer Park United Methodist Church-St. Joseph, MO; Member of Claire United Methodist Church-St. Joseph, MO; Sunday School Teacher; Bible School Teacher; Beverly LaHaye's Concerned Women for America; Republican Election Judge; and many other volunteer activities. She was very proud that her four sons obtained the rank of Eagle Scout.
Survivors include her husband, Keith Dupree of the home., four sons, Eric McCracken and wife Abbey of Stewartsville, MO., Jason McCracken and wife Marly of St. Joseph, MO., Shaun Dupree of St. Joseph., MO; Casey Dupree of Maryville, MO., siblings, David Brookshier of Cameron, MO., Martha Brookshier of St. Joseph, MO., Donna (Brookshier) Good and husband Dave of Chillicothe, MO., and Dean Brookshier and wife Nonie of Chillicothe, MO., mother-in-law Mary Dupree of Easton, MO., and grandchildren Caleb McCracken of Stewartsville, MO., Brock, Ava, Colt and Hadley McCracken all of St. Joseph, MO.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday May 4, 2019 at Grace Evangelical Church in St. Joseph, MO. A family visitation will be held at Grace Evangelical Church in St. Joseph, MO on Friday, May 3, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
A Public Graveside Memorial Service will also be held at Mt. Olive Cemetery in rural Chillicothe, MO at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday May 4, 2019. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Grace Evangelical Church and left at the Church or the funeral home or mailed to Heritage Funeral Home at 3141 North Washington Street, Chillicothe, MO 64601. Arrangements are under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home, Chillicothe, MO.
