Charles Rae “Chick” Zullig, 84, of Chillicothe, MO passed away Tuesday. September 13, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO.
Chick was born March 12. 1932 in Sampsel MO, the son of John Raymond Zullig and Opal Grace Hutchison Zullig. He graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1949.
He joined the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean Conflict from September 1950 through May 1952. He attained the rank of Corporal and spent much time in Paris, France and in Italy, before his separation at Camp Lejeune, NC.
On September 26, 1953 he married Mary Emma Gaston. She preceded him in death on September 16, 2006. He later married Patricia Taylor and she preceded him in death on July 15, 2015.
Chick worked for the Donaldson Corporation in Chillicothe for over 30 years and he was also a full time farmer in the Sampsel area.
He was a member of Mt. Olive Methodist Church and the American Legion of Chillicothe. He served as a County Court Judge from 1961 thru 1965 and he was on the Mt. Olive Cemetery Board.
He was an avid Royals and Chiefs fan and liked vegetable gardening, finding mushrooms, and hunting and fishing. Chick was an artist and did free hand drawings. His most enjoyable moments were spent with his loving family.
He is survived by four children, Larry Joe Zullig (Sherry) of Chillicothe MO, Marcia Ann Dykes (Lee) of Utica, MO, Mark Zullig (Kellie) of Pflugerville TX, and Greg Zullig (Kelly) of Leawood KS; 6 grandchildren, Brandon Zullig, Samantha Glidewell, Derek Dykes, David Dykes, Emma Zullig and Olivia Zullig; 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Doris Mae Breeden of Chillicothe and a brother, John Zullig of Odessa, MO.
Chick was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Mary Emma and Patricia; daughter, Cathy Sue Zullig; son, Bruce Zullig; and grandson, Luke Dykes.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 16. 2016 at Heritage Funeral Home, Chillicothe MO, followed by burial at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO at 2:00 p.m.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Heritage Funeral Home, Chillicothe
