March 24, 1916 — October 12, 2015

Eloise Saale Barnes, age 99, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Livingston Manor Care Center in Chillicothe, MO.
Eloise was a native of Livingston County and attended Slagle, a one room county school through the eighth grade. She was a member of one of the first 4-H clubs in the county.
She attended Chillicothe High School and was President and Valedictorian of her 1934 Senior Class. Eloise then attended Hutchison Kansas Junior College.
She and her high school sweetheart, Ted Collings Barnes were married on June 28, 1937. After Ted graduated from college (Kansas State College, Manhattan) they moved many times in the South while Ted worked for Mobil Petroleum as a geophysical engineer. When their first Child Judy was born, they moved back to Chillicothe where Ted joined his father Pete at Barnes Chevrolet. Another child, Janet came along the same year that WWII started and Ted enlisted in the United States Navy. Eloise followed Ted to Boston and Florida while he trained in Communications for the Navy with 2 little girls in tow. A third daughter (Connie) was born in Florida and Ted was sent overseas. The family moved back to Chillicothe and Ted returned from war in 1945.
Eloise and Ted had a very busy civic and social life. They were long time members of the United Methodist Church. Their fourth daughter, Diana , was born and raising a large family became their priority. Eloise and Ted were blessed with 40 happy years before he died in 1977.
She had a beautiful family with 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was active in many organizations including the Fine Arts Council, Historical Society, Chapter T PEO, Garden Club, Jr Sorosis Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Lydia Circle of the Methodist Church. She had many interests – bridge player, world traveler, bird watcher, book reader and most of all an avid gardener. For years she attended lunch with her “Do Nothing Club” girlfriends. However, Eloise’s proudest legacy was her family and she was very active and involved with her four daughters and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Joseph Saale and Lula Mae Gilbert Saale, her sister Mary Lou, brother Edward, husband Ted, daughter Judy, grandson Ted Baker and son in law Jim Baker.
She leaves behind three children, Janet Churan (Jeff), Connie Pastoor (Paul) and Diana Roberts (Doug).
