     Howard Eugene “Gene” Moyers, 73, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at his home in Chillicothe, with his loving wife and daughter by his side. He was born on August 21, 1951 to Oscar and Freda (Weston) Moyers of Farmington, Missouri.

     He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents. In addition to his wife Muriel and daughter Melissa Moyers, he is survived by two brothers, Garry Moyers and Richard Moyers, two sisters Teresa Contreras and Thelma Bellew, two sisters-in-law, Sandra Dorr and Brenda Richardson, one brother-in-law Dennis Braley, and several nieces and nephews.

     Gene proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force where he worked as a cryptographer with top secret security clearance during the Vietnam War. Later in life, Gene decided to enlist with the Maine Air National Guard where he earned the rank of Captain.

     After retirement from the Air Force, Gene became a college professor, where he taught history and government as well as employment law and labor relations. A fond memory of Gene’s came when he was writing his dissertation for his PhD when he was allowed to interview Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. He was permitted 20 minutes for his interview; however, it lasted well over an hour.

     As his career progressed, Gene became a college administrator, where he served as the Director of Human Resources. A highlight of his career was when he was appointed to the Maine State Board of Arbitration and Conciliation as an Employment Law Mediator and Arbitrator. Serving under three administrations, republican, democratic, and independent governors.

     Gene was passionate about civic involvement. During his time in Chillicothe, Gene served as the chairman of the Planning and Zoning Board. He also served on the Board of Adjustments, the Livingston/Grundy County Salvation Army Board of Directors, and Hedrick Citizen Advisory Board. He was a member of the Chillicothe Rotary, Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, Masonic Lodge, and Chautauqua Planning Committee. He also served as a school board member for the town of Sedgwick, Maine, Ethics Board Chairperson for the city of Bangor, Maine. Additionally, Gene, an Eagle Scout, served as the Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts of America.

     A family burial will take place at Snows-Corner Cemetery in Hermon, Maine at a later date.
