Jerald Fisher, 73, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away on June 28, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO.
He was born April 10, 1943 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Clarence and Gretta Staley Fisher.
He graduated from Chelsea High School and attended Iowa State University.
In 1995 he married his soul mate Christine (Caselman) Lamp in Olathe, KS.
He is survived by his mother of Tama, IA. His wife of Shawnee, Kansas and three daughters: Lisa (Paul) Fraise of Fort Madison, Iowa, Susan (Randy) Sprunger of Keokuk, Iowa and Amy (Charles) Gerveler of Fort Madison, Iowa. Ten grandchildren Matt Fraise, Nick (Nicole) Fraise, Adam(fiancée Lindsey Pieper) Fraise, Brittani Fraise, Jordan Sprunger, Samuel (fiancée Macy Murray) Sprunger, Emily Sprunger, Jerrad Gerveler, Lily Gerveler, and Isaac Gerveler. One great- grandson and best buddy, Kanyon Fraise. A brother Dean Fisher, and a sister Lois Broyles.
He was preceded in death by: his father, a son, Ian, and his sister Linda Hlas.
Jerry worked as a lab assistant at Iowa State and while working on one study he brought flying squirrels home to study and observe in the family basement. He constructed a complex jungle gym for them to fly and climb on. He followed his father and grandfather in their love for trains and the railroad and became an engineer for Chicago Northwestern in Boone, IA before moving to Fort Madison to work on the Santa Fe. He finished his 30 year career in railroading with Burlington Northern Santa Fe in Argentine, KS. Christine and Jerry spent many days traveling through the United States and Canada making lifelong friends along their journeys. They loved to winter in Florida and drink coffee with whoever they met. He was a Mason and a Shriner. Jerry loved meeting people and listening to their stories. His chuckle was infectious. Jerry had a sense of humor generally greatly admired. His love for his family and friends will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 1st, at Heritage Funeral Home in Chillicothe, Missouri at 1:30. Burial will be in Chelsea, Iowa at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Children’s Shriner Hospital.
