Lavona May McCaghy, 94, of Chillicothe, MO passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe.
Lavona was born May 23, 1917 in Humansville, MO the daughter of Clarence Deaver and Chloe Endicott Deaver.
She passed the State Board Exam and became a cosmetologist at age 17. She ran her own shop in the afternoons while attending high school in the mornings. Lavona maintained a shop in her home for many years, working nights and weekends.
She taught Cosmetology at the State Training School for Girls for seven years.
Lavona became a Licensed Practical Nurse and retired from Hedrick Medical Center after 27 years as Pharmacy and Central Supply Coordinator.
After retirement she lived in Meadville for 22 years before coming back to Chillicothe.
Lavona was married to Alvin Dettmann, Carroll Kenney and Arthur “Pat” McCaghy all preceded her in death.
She was an avid gardener and enjoyed flowers and bird watching.
Lavona is survived by two sons, Donald Dettmann and wife, Gladys of The Colony, TX and Paul Dettmann and wife, Jennifer of Chillicothe; a stepson, Ervin “Sonny” Kenney of North Canton, OH; three granddaughters and numerous step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; 2 step sons, Ronald Dettmann and John Kenney; and a step daughter, Verna Kay McCaghy.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe.
There is no visitation.
