Lois Clarkson

Lois Ruth Clarkson, 94, of Chillicothe MO, formerly of Hale MO, passed away Friday, May 09, 2014 at Morningside Center in Chillicothe.
Lois Clarkson was born February 9, 1920 in rural Livingston County near Bedford MO the daughter of Leonard Allen Wisehaupt and Ethel “Pearl” Finch Wisehaupt. She was a graduate of Wheeling High School.
On September 23, 1939 Lois married Samuel Thomas Clarkson in Wheeling Mo. He preceded her in death in 1976.
She was a member of the Avalon United Methodist Church until its closing. She served as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher and was active in all church activities including the Women’s Society of Christian Service. She also was PTA President and a member of the Triangle Club, and RSVP Volunteer.
Lois was the Fairiew Township Tax Collector for almost 30 years and she worked four summers at Yellowstone National Park and considered this to be one of the most enjoyable times of her life.
She enjoyed traveling and had been to all 48 continental states and in later years, she really enjoyed going to Branson MO with her family and the Roy Rogers show was her favorite. Lois also enjoyed reading and just spending a leisurely time with the children and grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Stirling (Bill), Sandy Nashan(Tom), and Diane Norris (Vernon); son, Tom (Sally) Clarkson; 9 grandchildren, Charles Stirling (Sherry), Kathy DePew (Roland), Bill Stirling (Amy), Tammie Christopher (Ashton), Tanya Parker (Kelly), Josiah Clarkson (Cilicia), Calandra King (Brandon), Kristie Hawkin (Scott) and Travis Norris; 17 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband, S. Thomas; granddaughter, Beth Norris; a great grandson, Dakota Wayne Smith; brother, Leonard F. Wisehaupt; two sisters, Gertrude Hallenberg and Pauline Kibler.
In Lieu of flowers Memorials in honor of Lois Clarkson may be made to Avalon Cemetery and left at or mailed to Heritage Funeral Home, 3141 N. Washington, Chillicothe MO 64601. On-line condolences may be left at www.heritage-becausewecare.com
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Heritage Funeral Home.
A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday.
Burial will be at Avalon Cemetery, Avalon MO.
Arrangements are under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home, Chillicothe MO.
