Lois Firmin

Lois Juanita Cox Firmin, a Chillicothe resident died Tuesday, September 4,   2012 at Morningside Center under the care of the Center and St. Luke’s Hospice.
Juanita was born February 15, 1921 in Grundy County, MO to Joseph Oscar and Nellie Roberts Cox. Later that year they moved to Chillicothe where she spent her entire childhood.
She was a graduate of Chillicothe High School, attended the University of Denver for 1 year the Chillicothe Business College, graduating in 1941. She then went to Washington DC where she worked for the government during WW2. Later she held secretarial positions in Rochester NY and Fullerton CA.
She married Joel Firmin in 1948 in Kansas City, MO. He preceded her in death in 2007.
After she and Joel married they resided on a farm near Weston MO and for 20 years they bred and showed Polled Hereford Cattle in cooperation with the University of Missouri Agriculture School including initiating Performance Testing in Monterey, Mexico and showing the top indexing bull at the University Show and Sale. She was also a Caseworker in Platte County and held many other positions in the area. They retired and sold their farm and moved to Chillicothe in 1998 to be near family.
She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, Daughters of the King, Olive Prindle Chapter DAR and Grand River Historical Society and Museum. She spent many hours doing family history research for her family and others.
She is  survived by 7 nieces and nephews including Betty Lemon and Barbara Cox of Chillicothe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and their only child David; brothers, Lloyd, Tom, Guy, Claude, Glen, and Clifford; sisters Fay Sherrow and Edith Kaufmann.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials contributions to Grace Episcopal Church. They may be left at the funeral home or mailed to Heritage Funeral Home, 3141 N. Washington, Chillicothe MO 64601. On-line condolences may be left at www.heritage-becausewecare.com .
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 at     Heritage Funeral Home, in Chillicothe.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012  at Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville MO. (Highway 116 & Hwy M).
