Marlys Hagen

Marlys Hagen (Johnson) age 87, longtime resident of Utica, died Saturday, April 6, 2025 surrounded by her family.

Marlys Jean Johnson was born June 1, 1937 in Elbow Lake, MN., to James Oscar Johnson and Agnes (Ostlund) Johnson. She grew up and attended school in Elbow Lake. Marlys married her husband of 66 years, Philip Hagen on August 30th, 1958. They moved to Utica a few years later making it their forever home. Marlys worked in retail and babysitting in later years for local families.

Marlys is survived her husband Phil of the home, two daughters, Fay Dowell of Utica, MO., and Beth Riley (Tom) of Kansas City, MO. Five grandchildren, Jennifer Dowell, St. Joe, MO., Jarrod Dowell (Heather) St. Joe, MO., Jason Dowell (Kylie) Shawnee, KS., Sam Riley (Kat) Liberty, MO and Jake Riley of Kansas City, MO. Marlys had seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. One brother, Jerome (Ginny) Johnson, Colorado Springs, CO and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death her parents, Oscar and Agnes Johnson; three sisters, Ora Libke, Judy Uhlig and Marion Knutson; four brothers, Arnold Johnson, Leon Johnson, Leonard Johnson, and Paul Johnson.

Private family service to be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Heritage Funeral Home.
