Wilma Louise (Hofmeister) Smith went to be with her Lord early on December 1, 2024, at age 102.
Wilma was born March 4, 1922, in Clearfield, Iowa, the third child of William and Anna (McLaury) Hofmeister. She graduated from Clearfield High School where she played basketball.
Wilma married her life partner, Myron Howard Smith, on January 3, 1942. They were partners in everything as they farmed and raised their three children: Wilma Louise (Bob) Reasoner, Myra Mae (Larry) Chandler, and Steven Howard (Karen) Smith. They were active in their Church and community. They especially enjoyed camping with the Clearfield Happy Campers and spent many weeks at the Iowa State Fair helping the Clearfield Lions Club run the shuttle service.
Wilma was a member of the First Christian Church, Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Welcoming Hands. She especially enjoyed playing bridge with a wide circle of friends.
After Myron's passing Wilma moved to Chillicothe, MO, in 1994, to be near Louise and Bob. She once again developed a wide circle of friends and enjoyed First Christian Church and playing bridge. She continued to travel with friends on tour groups and to visit out-of-state family.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Anna Hofmeister, her husband, Myron Smith, and siblings George Hofmeister and Ethyl Dunaway.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, nine grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends, including the wonderful caretakers at Livingston Manor.
No services are planned at this time. A private family inurnment will be held at Clearfield Cemetery in Clearfield, IA at a later time. Memorials for First Christian Church, Chillicothe, may be sent to Heritage Funeral Home, Chillicothe.
